I live with my husband and teenage children in the Redlands, Queensland, Australia. We are an active family, and we love spending our free time outdoors.
Things I love – I love the outdoors, good food, and quality time with my family.
My mission - to teach women how to advocate for themselves by giving them the knowledge and tools that will empower them to make healthy food and lifestyle choices that will make them thrive.
What I have learned – life is a gift and to live a healthy life is an even greater gift, being able to pass that on to others is the greatest reward. I love that I get to help others to create sustainable health habits that will improve their health and their lives and hopefully create a ripple effect to the people around them.
My formal education - I studied a Bachelor of Exercise and Nutrition Science at the University of Queensland; I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to study at one of Australia's top universities.
When I’m not working - you'll find me in the kitchen cooking and baking with whole food ingredients, walking my dogs in our local park, spending time with my family, we love beach days and camping trips.
I was raised knowing the importance of fresh fruit and vegetables as part of a healthy diet. I was raised on homecooked meals and I spent most of my childhood playing outdoors. I carried these health principals into adulthood and for much of my life I looked and felt healthy.
When I had children, naturally I wanted to give them the best possible start in life, and I had no doubt that nutritious food was a vital part of that. The irony was that while I was pouring all my love and energy into nurturing them, I was not looking after myself. I fell into poor eating habits, which set off a toxic cascade of events that compromised my health. In the years that followed I developed skin issues which I medicated with antibiotics; I had severe digestive issues due to acquired food intolerances; my brain was foggy, and I felt tired and sluggish. I wasn’t really sick but I knew that I wasn’t really well either, my symptoms were vague and when I explained them to my doctor, she didn’t have answers for me.
Through my search to improve my symptoms I followed my intuition and started with food, the more I turned to natural and holistic health practices the better I felt. When my children started school I had the opportunity to return to study and naturally I chose a degree in nutrition science. I absolutely loved learning the science of health and disease and how food really is medicine. The more I learnt the more I was able to invest in my health and that of my family. But the pressure of combining study with raising children and managing a household was stressful and I learnt that food alone was not enough for me to feel amazing and to thrive. I went on to do a course in Integrative Health Coaching, and this gave me a very holistic understanding of health. One of the issues is that the healing power of food is lost when we are stressed, and if we do not slow down and give ourselves time to rest, our bodies do not get a chance to heal. Incorporating holistic practices into daily life has been a game changer for me, I feel more balanced and my health has elevated to the next level.
Fast forward a few years and I transitioned through peri- and into post menopause. Many of the habits that I had put in place before my hormones started changing made perimenopause an easy transition for me. However, it wasn't until I reached post menopause and a sharp decline in oestrogen that I found myself searching for other ways to support my health as I aged.
Knowing what I know now, through my lived experience and through my studies, I know that I really can make a difference in other people’s lives too. I am passionate about helping people to find true health and experience energy and vitality and to love themselves and the life that they’re living. You only get one life and as much as food has the power to heal, the wrong foods and lifestyle choices can cause havoc with your health.
